5/1/2023 0 Comments Chitchat or chit chatHave a few more learnings that I’m going to internalize and take away for the next training cycle. In retrospect, I don’t think I was in shape to be running 6:40 miles and if I had just stuck to 6:45 the whole way through, I might be walking away with a 2:57 PR rather than a “relatively disappointing” 3:00. Almost like flipping a switch, I hit the wall at mile 19 and my pace cratered to about 7:20 for the last 7 miles. I started at a 6:45 min/mi pace for the first 10k and was feeling really good then I pushed it to 6:40 from miles 7-19 which felt good… until it didn’t. Good news is that it’s an easy fix - just run more!īeing smarter about pacing. I know some people can run fast on low volume, but my body has always responded better to higher mileage plans. The last two training cycles I’ve only been doing 50-55 MPW and I think the lack of volume really affected me in the latter parts of the race. Every time I’ve run sub-3 before, I was averaging 70+ MPW. I think in my post race analysis, there were a few learnings/insights to take away for my next training cycle. I ended up running it in 3:00:22 - a little disappointed as I was a couple min slower than my PR, but it was definitely a nice way to bounce back from a rough Boston marathon and I’m happy I got in this final race before the baby comes! Grandma’s marathon was so much fun - well organized, great weather, good scenery. Happy Monday all! Mini race report below:
